Gretchen Driskell to get a huge boost in MI-52 from GOTV efforts across ALL of Washtenaw County

We’re not losing this one Photo by Anne C. Savage, special to Eclectablog As I wrote yesterday, the Washtenaw County Democratic Party’s Precinct Organizing Committee (led by me and organizer Tad Wysor of Ypsilanti) has been holding a series of Grassroots Empowerment Orientation sessions across the county over the past month. These meetings are the first steps toward building a […]

BREAKING: Former House Speaker Pro Tempore Pam Byrnes announces candidacy for the 7th Congressional District

Look out, Tim Walberg. Your days are numbered. Pam Byrnes with Congressmen John Dingell and John Lewis Several months ago, I contacted former Michigan House Speaker Pro Tempore Pam Byrnes and her husband Kent Brown. I wanted to discuss the possibility of her running for Congress in the 7th District to oust the odious tea party grandfather Tim Walberg. I […]

Michigan Senate Republicans fail to act on Medicaid expansion

Despite urging from Democrats, citizens, businesses and healthcare professionals, Republicans continue to stall. Senate Republicans said they would hold a hearing on Medicaid expansion on Wednesday. Medicaid expansion still matters to Michigan

Medicaid expansion still matters to Michigan

While Senate Democrats push for a vote, their Republican counterparts claim they need more time to think. Honestly, what is there to think about? It’s not as if Medicaid expansion hasn’t been in consideration for a year. Even with the recent tweaks in a bill introduced and approved by the Michigan House, this is not a difficult decision. Medicaid expansion […]

Michigan Democrats lead while Republicans walk away from Medicaid expansion

Democratic candidate for Governor Mark Schauer calls for leadership while Governor Rick Snyder asks Michiganders to call their Senators…who have already left for vacation. Governor Rick Snyder couldn’t get Senate Republicans to do the right thing for Michiganders and vote yes on Medicaid expansion — or even vote on it at all, for that matter. UPDATED: Democrats turned the opportunity for a win on school dissolution legislation into a complete loss

UPDATED: Democrats turned the opportunity for a win on school dissolution legislation into a complete loss

Aye aye aye…

As I wrote last Friday, Republicans in the state House threw a bipartisan piece of legislation designed to help failing school districts back in the faces of Democrats who were trying to make improvements and ended up passing a bill that, once again, harms students and throws teachers to the curb.

Recall that, during the debate, Republicans acted like complete jackasses, absurdly blaming the teachers for the financial crises in places like Inkster and Buena Vista, calling them “hogs” and saying that “they should never try to get another job in education”. It was offensive to its core.

Well, there’s a bit more to this story and, unfortunately, Democrats played a major role in botching this up royally. Click through for details.

Someone is already messing with Terri Lynn Land’s Senate bid. But who?

Someone is already messing with Terri Lynn Land’s Senate bid. But who?

Really, it’s starting ALREADY??? Now that Mike Rogers has declined to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Carl Levin in 2014, the top contender is former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land (though she has yet to file her paperwork.) Although she’s member of the Republican National Committee, she is not the first pick of most […]
