Mitt Romney has now pissed off EVERYONE with his changing positions

Mitt Romney has now pissed off EVERYONE with his changing positions

It took some doing but Mitt’s just the man for the job!

Mitt Romney has been accused of flip-flopping on pretty much every single major policy position and issue that has been discussed in the presidential election. Abortion. Taxing the rich. Budget policy. Health insurance reform. Raising taxes on the middle class. You name a major issue and Mitt Romney has taken both sides at some point in the past decade.

What’s lost in this discussion is the fact that, by doing so, Mitt Romney hasn’t just appeased everyone. He’s also pissed off everyone. For every issue that is important to any particular group, he hasn’t just sided WITH you; he’s sided AGAINST you.

Much more after the jump.

Mitt Romney: The Vaporware Candidate

Mitt Romney: The Vaporware Candidate

Nothing new under the sun

When computer companies want to command headlines and freak out their competition into making bad decisions, they announce “vaporware”. Here’s the description from Wikipedia:

Vaporware is a term in the computer industry that describes a product, typically computer hardware or software, that is announced to the general public but is never actually released nor officially cancelled. Vaporware is also a term sometimes used to describe events that are announced or predicted, never officially cancelled, but never intended to happen. The term also generally applies to a product that is announced months or years before its release, and for which public development details are lacking… At times, vendors are criticized for intentionally producing vaporware in order to keep customers from switching to competitive products that offer more features.

This is the perfect description of Mitt Romney and the Republicans. Details and the media’s evisceration of Mitt Romney’s “major foreign policy speech” after the jump.

UPDATED: The importance of collective bargaining and why Prop 2 opponents are lying to Michigan voters

UPDATED: The importance of collective bargaining and why Prop 2 opponents are lying to Michigan voters

Collective bargaining helps ALL workers and anti-labor forces know & fear that

The anti-labor, pro-business group Protecting Michigan Taxpayers has a television ad out now that may be the most egregious, lie-filled, dishonest political ad on Michigan televisions at the moment.

The ad is designed to make Proposal 2, a ballot initiative to protect collective bargaining rights in our state, look like it will endanger children rather than giving our teachers the right to bargain for smaller class sizes, living wages, health care, and retirement benefits.

Almost every day, you see someone on the right accusing groups on the left of using scare tactics. And yet, this ad is the most shameless effort to frighten voters that you’re likely to see this election cycle. They even use the words “dangerous”, “terrifying”, and “risk”.

The ad and much more after the jump.

Two faces of Mitt: Says he won’t lower taxes on the rich but will lower taxes on the rich to spur the economy

Two faces of Mitt: Says he won’t lower taxes on the rich but will lower taxes on the rich to spur the economy

Dude, don’t you get dizzy?

Mitt Romney is out in the open telling two completely different stories about how he both WILL and WON’T lower taxes on America’s wealthiest citizens. He WILL, he says, because it will spur the economy. He WON’T, he says, because he’ll be closing some as-yet undisclosed loopholes.

Both sides of his face revealed after the jump.

Speaking of not paying taxes & entitlement, how about the 26 Fortune 500 corporations that haven’t paid tax in 4 years?

Speaking of not paying taxes & entitlement, how about the 26 Fortune 500 corporations that haven’t paid tax in 4 years?

Say, Mitt, when will these guys take personal responsibility & care about THEIR lives?

With Mitt Romney bloviating about how half the country are tax cheats that feel “entitled” to things like food and healthcare and housing, I got to thinking about who else in the USA doesn’t pay taxes. Then I remembered a report by the Citizens for Tax Justice (pdf) that came out earlier this year. It was a report that showed 26 Fortune 500 companies — PROFITABLE Fortune 500 companies, I should add — that paid no taxes or actually got a rebate every year since 2008.

Major rant after the jump.

The media turns on Romney – Mark Halperin on the Romney “Death Stench”

The media turns on Romney – Mark Halperin on the Romney “Death Stench”

Ooo, ooo, that smell. Can’tchya smell that smell?

Okay, so THIS isn’t good:

Romney … is in danger of living out the Haley Barbour dictum: in politics, bad gets worse. Super PACs might start shifting their money from the presidential race to save the House majority and look to pick up Senate seats. Romney’s own fundraising will take a hit. Stories about Romney pulling up stakes in Michigan and other ostensible battlegrounds will add to the death stench.

Seriously, when Time magazine pundits start talking about the Romney “Death Stench”, you know you’re in trouble.

Jennifer Granholm on Paul Ryan the liar

Jennifer Granholm on Paul Ryan the liar

Plain talk about a brazen liar

Jennifer Granholm has been positively on fire lately.

I am SO loving this takedown of Paul Ryan and his RNC speech:

“We will not duck the tough issues, we will lead,” Ryan promised last night. He mentioned leading and leadership eight times in his speech. But he’d better bone up on what leadership is all about. More than anything, “leadership” is about honesty.

The No. 1 quality people look for in leaders, James Kouzes and Barry Posner state in their iconic book, “The Leadership Challenge,” in which they cite more than 40 years of extensive surveys across six continents, is honesty. People want to trust that their leaders will do what they say they will do. Of course we want to believe we will not be duped. Of course we want to be led honestly.

I couldn’t help thinking lastnight, we have been sold a bill of goods by a slick-haired, earnest-looking, fast-talking salesman. Harold Hill, move over. Apologies to Meredith Wilson of “The Music Man” fame, but if these guys win — we surely got trouble, my friends. Trouble with a capital “T” and that rhymes with “P” and that stands for “Paul.”

Ssss-NAP!

While head of Bain, Romney got a government bailout then swindled taxpayers for $10 million

While head of Bain, Romney got a government bailout then swindled taxpayers for $10 million

Mitt Romney: Shameless and shameful

Rolling Stone has a blockbuster piece online that will appear in the September 13 issue. In it, journalist Tim Dickinson reveals that, while at the helm of Bain Capital, Mitt Romney (a) nearly managed the firm into bankruptcy, (b) received a massive government bailout and then, (c) swindled taxpayers out of at least $10 million after basically blackmailing the FDIC.

It’s a piece of journalistic excellence that is likely to break this campaign wide open. The whole scandalous story after the jump.

Hold the phone! National media is starting to notice that the Romney/Ryan campaign is based on LIES

Welcome aboard, media friends

Yesterday, Greg Sargent at The Plum Line wrote a terrific piece titled “Call out the lies right in your headlines”. He, as well as others, are ratcheting up the call for our main media sources to start calling what Mitt Romney and his campaign are doing: blatantly lying. Making things up and then repeating them over and over again despite being debunked and fact-checked as false Pinocchios with their pants on fire.

It’s starting to work. Proof — lots and lots and lots of proof — after the jump.
