President Obama vows to veto efforts to shortcut Deficit Supercommittee’s failure trigger

Republicans are talking about passing legislation to shortcut the automatic spending triggers built in to the Deficit Reduction Supercommittee’s failure to come up with a plan. President Obama is having none of it. From this afternoon:

Good afternoon. As you all know, last summer I signed a law that will cut nearly $1 trillion of spending over the next 10 years. Part of that law also required Congress to reduce the deficit by an additional $1.2 trillion by the end of this year.

In September, I sent them a detailed plan that would have gone above and beyond that goal. It’s a plan that would reduce the deficit by an additional $3 trillion, by cutting spending, slowing the growth of Medicare and Medicaid, and asking the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share.

Pretend Democrats Patrick Caddell & Douglas Schoen say President Obama must not run in 2012

Only on Fox News and the pages of the Wall Street Journal are PUMA-inciters Douglas Schoen and Patrick Caddell considered “Democrats”. Nevertheless, Fox and the WSJ trot them out from time to time to show the world that there is disharmony in the ranks of liberals and Democrats. The fact is, however, despite their resumes, these two are no more Democrats than my cat Spooky (who is pretty Libertarian, just sayin’…)

The latest effluvient from these two is an editorial in the WSJ today saying that there is no way that President Barack Obama can govern when he wins in 2012 so the president should just step aside right now and let the real leader of the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton take center stage.…

Cutting government waste: Obama administration is doin’ it right

Politicians always talk about “trimming waste” in government. The Obama administration shows ‘em how it’s done. Almost $18 billion-with-a-”B” in savings this year alone (and 2011 ain’t over yet.) Over $20 billion since 2010.

And more to come, thanks to a new Executive Order, part of the President’s ongoing “We Can’t Wait” initiative where he’s taking action Congress just can’t seem to get around to.

We Can’t Wait: Agencies Cut Nearly $18 Billion in Improper Payments, Announce New Steps for Stopping Government Waste

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) today announced that the Administration cut wasteful improper payments by $17.6 billion dollars in 2011 as part of the Obama Administration’s Campaign to Cut Waste, fueled by decreases in payment errors in Medicare, Medicaid, Pell Grants, and Food Stamps.…

More “We Can’t Wait” goodness from President Obama – cutting waste in government

President Obama is on a tear lately. Under the banner “We Can’t Wait”, he is using Executive Orders to accomplish things that Congress is unable or unwilling to do themselves. The latest salvo is cutting government waste.

WASHINGTON, DC – This morning, President Obama will sign an Executive Order that will cut waste and promote more efficient spending across the federal government. With this Order, the President is directing agencies to reduce spending on travel; limit the number of information technology devices (e.g. cell phones, smartphones, tablets, laptops) that can be issued to individual employees; stop unnecessarily printing documents that can be posted online; shrink the executive fleet of the federal government; and stop using taxpayer dollars to buy swag — the plaques, clothing, and other unnecessary promotional items that agencies purchase.…

The White House is really starting to get it on messaging

Check this out:

That single graphic conveys an enormous amount of information about President Obama’s jobs plan in comparison with the “jobs plan” of the Republicans.

This is the kind of stuff they need to be doing year-round, not just during campaign season. LOVE it.

President Obama hands the GOP as much rope as they can carry

Senate Republicans today blocked a vote on yet another one of the components of President Obama’s jobs plan today. This one would have invested $60 billon in building and repairing our nation’s crumbling infrastructure and was fully paid for by a 0.7% (!!!) surcharge on income over $1 million. A bridge too far for Republicans, apparently.

Republicans in the Senate Thursday dealt President Barack Obama the third in a string of defeats on his stimulus-style jobs agenda, blocking a $60 billion measure for building and repairing infrastructure like roads and rail lines.

Supporters of the failed measure said it would have created tens of thousands of construction jobs and lifted the still-struggling economy.
