The International Tour of Shame & Embarrassment concludes. Welcome back, Mitt!

“A gold medal gaffe…”

I don’t know about you, but the “Kiss my ass, show some respect” line from the Romney campaign in Poland this week was the clear gold medal winner on Mitt Romney’s International Tour of Shame & Embarrassment™.

The DNC has put together a nice collection of headlines and news clips from the Tour™. It’s … well, it’s just plain awesome sauce with a side order of HA!

“…an international tour that featured some major gaffes…”

“…a trip marked with self-inflicted wounds at EVERY stop…”

“From Mitt Romney, a gold medal gaffe…”

“That’s right, he said ‘shove it’ and ‘kiss my blank’ at a site he himself described as holy place…”

Perhaps the funniest part is that the Romney campaign as spinning the trip is a “great success”:

In the estimation of Mitt Romney and his top campaign aides, there were no gaffes, no mistakes, no ill-advised statements on the Republican candidate’s overseas trip. {…}

[A]s the candidate wrapped up his last leg in Poland, a senior Romney adviser said the campaign will land back in the U.S. late Tuesday, supremely confident of the results on the ground.

“I think it was a great success,” Romney adviser Stuart Stevens said after the GOP contender’s foreign policy speech in Warsaw, the last leg of the campaign’s three-country tour.

Just a reminder: Mitt is not yet the Republican nominee for president. That means there is still time for Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, or Ron Paul to have a chance.

And, no, I’m NOT kidding.

And, no, Jon Huntsman does NOT have a chance.

    You’ve touched on something that I’ve been pondering for quiet a long time. Even as far back as those never-ending Republican debates. As the RNC grows near, and given Romney is… well, Romney, does the back-room GOP have a nominee waiting in the wings? Someone with name recognition that they think would be a shoo-in because he hasn’t been getting any heat all this time and with only a couple of months to the election, and with an immense amount of super-pac money and the Karl Rove machine in place, would not be such a Hail Mary.

    When Romney ran four years ago, he used over $40M of his own money. To date, he has spent just over $100K. He must realize that his campaign has been an utter fiasco and his lack of putting any ideas forward lends to it being a sham. Has he known from the git-go that he’s a ploy, a shill with the promise for an ambassadorship or maybe veep? Or do you believe the GOP have gone bonkers? Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeb Bush was brought in at the last moment to “pull the party together.”

    If I were writing this screenplay, that’s the way I’d work it.

    I didn’t have the money information Beauchemin puts forwards, but I’ve thought all along that Jeb Bush is going to be the candidate. Romney will implode or be forced to find a reason to quit the race (to spend time with his familyor his horse) . Jeb is definitely in the wings and would never have made it through the primaries. A third Bush??? OMG, the country can’t survive it.
