Mitt Romney and Rick Perry both loved them some individual mandate before they hated it

In response to Governor Rick Perry’s health care letter to then First Lady Hillary Clinton Protect Your Care Communications Director Eddie Vale issued the following statement:

As we have discussed many times before, the individual responsibility provision is a common sense, free-market idea. It was developed by the Heritage Foundation and has had bipartisan support in the past including Governors Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. It is welcome news to learn today that Governor Rick Perry was also open to the idea.

As outlined by NBC News at the time Perry wrote his letter to Hillary Clinton praising her efforts on health care reform many of the items in the plan, including the individual responsibility provision, were already known and being reported on.

We hope that moving forward Mitt Romney and Rick Perry can use their joint past support for the individual responsibility provision to educate the tea party about the importance of this provision in the Affordable Care Act and get them to join the bi-partisan coalition along with President Obama supporting it.

Bwahahahaaaa!!! See? That’s why I love liberals! They still have the power to imagine a better world where hypocrites like Rick Perry and Mitt Romney would be consistent and not pander to the lowest, loudest, most strident characters on the political scene today.

Ain’t. Gonna. Happen.
