As the lefty commentator Chicken Littles run around, President Obama piles up the wins

by

Oh. My. Lord.

To read the lefty pundits today, you would think that President Obama had changed parties overnight, handed over the keys to the Oval Office to the resurrected body of Ronald Reagan, and hitchhiked back to his hometown in Kenya/Moscow. After stepping in and helping to broker a deal to keep the government from shutting down, something members of Congress appeared unable to do without his intervention, we are now being told by these Chicken Littles that he gave away the farm and the Democrats are sure to lose everything.

Funny thing is, according to a CNN poll out today, Americans think what he did was pretty danged awesome and they credit the Democrats with averting a shutdown, not the Republicans.

Who won last week’s showdown over the federal budget and the government shutdown-that-wasn’t?

It looks like the public gives the Democrats more credit for the deal than the Republicans…according to a new national poll.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday indicates that the budget agreement that prevented a government shutdown is popular, with Americans supporting it by a 58 to 38 percent margin. But there’s a partisan divide, with two-thirds of Democrats and a majority of independent voters backing the deal, and Republicans divided.

I’m personally not going to weep to loudly if Republicans don’t give the President any credit for this. They don’t give him credit for anything; that’s a given.

Pundits on the left are sure it’s a complete failure, though, and I’m sure it’s all we’ll hear about for days.

The administration scored another win today when a federal appeals court upheld a lower court decision in favor of the Obama Justice Department that tossed out the most egregious aspects of Arizona’s odious “Papers, please” law. Cue the poutrage over that since I’m sure some way will be found, some pretzel logic will be applied, to show how this is somehow damaging to Democrats.

On Wednesday the President will be making a speech about deficit reduction and already we’re supposed to be running around with our hair on fire about how President Obama is going to force elderly people to eat catfood and use poor people to wipe his feet on.

No speech has been given. No numbers or policies have been released (except those that say he’s going to “look for savings” in Medicare and Medicaid and push for higher taxes on the very rich) but already the catfood trucks are being filled so they can be rushed to the senior centers. They’ll probably drive over poor people to get there.

It’s funny. Last year the Affordable Care Act ended some of the biggest wasteful items in Medicare and the Republicans called it “slashing Medicare” and used against Democrats in the fall campaign. Here were have something that has not even occured yet and it’s the liberals who are already prejudging it and calling it an assault on the poor and elderly.

It is apparently too much to ask that the President actually be given a chance to lay out his ideas to the American public before we start bashing him over the head about it. I’m used to this crap from the Republicans but to have it come in as friendly fire from people who should be allies is truly galling.

The election is still a year and a half away and I’m already exhausted from fighting people on our own side. Aye, aye, aye…

I’m just sayin’…
