This year’s State of the Union “You LIE!” moment

Like last year, where Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “You LIE!” at President Obama in the middle of his State of the Union Address, this year’s Address had a similarly offensive moment, this one courtesy of a tweet from Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia:

Mr. President, you don’t believe in the Constitution. You believe in socialism.

Strangely, he followed this up later with a tweet calling the President’s Address a “good speech”.

You know, for a socialist.

I’m just sayin’…

How odd that he actually wrote “Mr.” I’m getting a Virgil Tibbs vibe and do know why. Any way, this is the doctor who’s come out against Let’s Move and nutritional efforts by the First Lady. He’s a dumbass.

Meanwhile, did you see Joe Wilson? Looked like he was, um, dosed. Not like the orange man was. But like he’d been given instructions to keep himself seated and a little help in the effort…

Call me crazy but I actually tweeted Broun last night. I told him that he was an idiot and how did he make it through med school.

  • “Mr. President”? Maybe he was going for the Olbermann Special Comment vibe?

It is very embarrassing for me that this man represents the district where I went to college at the University of GA. I found out the reason he keeps being re-elected is because it is a type of gerrymandered district. Athens, GA is blue, blue, blue, and one of the greatest places to attend college and live. Broun is not only an embarrassment to Athens, but to GA, the U.S., and the world. He is an example of what my parents used to call “an educated fool.” He had a young, progressive democrat who ran against him in 2010, but Broun refused to debate him, and the citizens didn’t get a chance to compare him to Broun. If they had, I think many of them would not have sent Broun back to Congress for another term in office.

  • You know…. somebody should explain to Republicans the meaning of “socialism” and how it works in reality. They equate it with communism and assault on liberty and human rights. It became a scare word over there while many successful countries in other parts of the world (like Europe) consider themselves socialist to various degrees (even their right-leaning government). It really isn’t the boogeyman the American politicians make it out to be. It’s just one small variable in the style of governing.

    • They wouldn’t listen to no stinkin’ furriner about such things, Luke, rest assured.
