Michelle Obama helps out Santa Claus

by

I have adored Michelle Obama from the moment I first heard about her and her amazing life. I am particularly enamored of her connection with children; both her own and the children of the USA in general.

But, honestly, how cool is this? On Christmas Eve, the First Lady spent about 40 minutes talking to kids who were tracking Santa Claus‘ trip around the world.

NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) has a hotline kids can call to track Santa’s progress around the globe. This year, a handful of kids that called the hotline ended up talking to the First Lady live and in person!

According to a statement from the White House, Michelle Obama spent around 40 minutes talking with children who called hotline at NORAD – a US and Canadian military organization for aerospace and maritime defense which uses radar, satellites, high-speed digital cameras as well as fighter jets for tracking Santa.

Michelle Obama’s participation – which pleasantly surprised the children who called up to the NORAD system to ask about the whereabouts of Santa – in this year’s Santa-tracking proceedings is apparently the first such involvement by any US First Lady, ever since the NORAD began keeping tabs on Santa’s movements in 1955.

More HERE.

While Barack Obama took the children to the beach, his wife was on the telephone to pitch in from afar with volunteers working at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. Juliana-Rose Hatcher, aged eight, said: “She asked me what I wanted from Santa and I told her an MP3 player, and she said her daughter wants an MP3 player too.”

The girl’s mother, Jennifer, said at first they thought it was a joke or a pre-recorded message, but quickly realised “Wow, it really, really is her.”

Austin Futch, 10, from Memphis, Tennessee, said he quizzed the First Lady about a few things on his mind concerning life in the White House.

He wanted to know how it felt to be surrounded at all times by Secret Service agents – not too bad because they are nice guys, Mrs. Obama said – and if it was hard being married to the President.

“No, he’s a pretty good guy,” she told him

Classy. Very, very classy.

I’m just sayin’…
